Ice Cream Parlor
Humans interacting with one another and their environment are predominant themes in my work. Another theme is interactions or objects that have remained more or less the same despite the massive changes wrought by the information technology revolution. My aim in this series is to capture an ice cream parlor that has been in my adopted city for five decades. I was drawn to this parlor because its authenticity, its vintage aura without pretension. That is, it looks like it is from a certain era because it *is* from that era, not because it's pretending to be. The owners and staff remind me of where I grew up and some of the jobs I had back then. Beyond the friendly atmosphere and good ice cream, the parlor offers many signs of human presence and human interaction.
